Horse racing & greyhounds
Racing also asks for a pick from a field, but its money rules differ from those of tennis, and the differences are worth setting out. This section deals with them.
Horse and greyhound tips come with their own vocabulary. Each-way splits a stake into two equal parts, win and place, which doubles the outlay; ante-post, starting price, non-runners and Rule 4 decide what is finally paid.
Tax is handled separately too. When the general remote betting rate reaches 25% on 1 April 2027, remote bets on UK horse racing will stay at 15% General Betting Duty, and pool betting is taxed apart.
